INFORMEST - Service and Documentation Centre for International Economic Co-operation, is a non-profit public organization created by the Italian Law no. 19/1991 and legally established in December 1992 by three founders: the Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region, the Veneto Region, and the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE). Other shareholders are now: the Trentino - Alto Adige Region, the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce (Unioncamere) and other regional and local Chambers of Commerce. Its headquarters are in Gorizia, very close to the border between Italy and Slovenia.


The mission of INFORMEST is to develop economic co-operation between Italian enterprises and economic operators interested in the central and eastern European Countries, in the Newly Independent States and in some Asian Countries such as China, Mongolia, Vietnam. This aim is pursued through the provision of a wide range of specialised and integrated services, such as:

  • Information on: relevant legislation in the countries of interest, financial institutions and instruments promoting investment and trade in these countries, market and investment opportunities;
  • Dissemination of information on EU matters and on issues related to specific projects carried out by Informest, through the publication of books, papers, CD-Roms;
  • Consulting: assistance in carrying out investment and market operations;
  • Training aimed at: improving managerial skills, promoting entrepreneurship, strengthening specialist skills of SME counsellors and trainers, developing capacities of public officials;
  • Technical Assistance in various areas (see below);
  • Organization of meetings, seminars, conferences, study tours.

Assistance & consultancy

The Assistance and consultancy Area provides services related to the strategic evaluation and the operational support to the international trade and industrial co-operation. These services are supplied both in Italy and in the foreign countries of interest for Italian companies. In addition, this Area assists its Clients in accessing national and European financing tools for SMEs internationalisation.

Info Services

The Information Services & Innovation Department provides innovative high-tech services as well as up-dated and reliable information aimed at promoting and internationalising Italian SMEs. The main services provided by the Information Services & Innovation Dept. include the production of Country Guides on 30 central and eastern European countries, NIS and Asian countries. In addition, it maintains the web Portal and it sends it Newsletter to more then 14.500 subscribers.


The Development Project Area designs, organises and manages pilot projects and horizontal initiatives for the promotion of trans-national industrial and economic co-operation and training actions, both for national and foreign beneficiaries. Such projects are financed by national aid programmes or by the European Commission in the framework of various programmes (Phare, Tacis, Cards, Interreg, etc.).


The EURO INFO CENTRE IT388 Friuli Venezia Giulia, hosted by Informest, is part of the European network of Euro Info Centres (EIC), which is one of the most qualified tools of support to SMEs, providing information, consulting and assistance on the policies of European the Union and on the EU programmes. The network, active from 1998, includes approximately 340 centres based in more than 35 EU, PHARE and MEDA Countries.
